Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Treatment in Indore

Dr Bansal's Women's Health Clinic

A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of the urinary system, which includes:

Kidneys (upper urinary tract)

Ureters (tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder)

Bladder (lower urinary tract)

Urethra- tube carrying urine out of the body

The great majority of UTIs are caused by bacteria, with Escherichia coli, a common inhabitant of the intestines-being the most frequent causative agent. UTIs occur more frequently in women due to a shorter urethra.

Types of UTIs

Cystitis (Bladder Infection) – Most common type.

Urethritis (Urethra Infection): It is an infection of the urethra.

Pyelonephritis - More serious, can lead to kidney damage if untreated.

⚠️ Symptoms

Location قد/common symptoms

Bladder (Cystitis): Burning sensation with urination, frequent urination, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, lower abdominal pain

Urethra (Urethritis) Burning sensation while urinating, discharge (sometimes)

Kidneys (Pyelonephritis): Fever, chills, back or side pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue

Risk Factors

Female anatomy (short urethra)

Sexual activity

Urinary catheter utilisation

Pregnancy

Diabetes or a weakened immune system

Poor hygiene

Obstruction of the urinary tract, such as kidney stones or an enlarged prostate

Prevention
1. Stay Properly Hydrated

Drink lots of water to help cleanse bacteria from the urinary tract.

2. Personal Hygiene

Wipe front to back after using the toilet.

Regular washing of the genital area.

Avoid irritating feminine products (e.g., douches, harsh soaps).

3. Urinate Regularly

Avoid holding urine for extended periods; empty your bladder.

Urinate after sexual intercourse, so bacteria are flushed out.

4. Clothing Choices

Wear cotton underwear. Do not wear tight-fitting clothes that tend to trap moisture.

5. Dietary and Lifestyle Measures

Cranberry juice or supplements may reduce bacterial adhesion (some evidence).

Probiotics can help maintain healthy urinary and gut flora.

If you're disposed to UTIs, limit caffeine and alcohol.

6. Medical Measures

In the case of recurrent UTIs, doctors often recommend low-dose antibiotics.

Treat underlying conditions, such as kidney stones or diabetes, which predispose to this problem.
